Nabi (sallallahu ’alayhi wasallam) was once asked: ‘Which qualities of Islam are the best?’ He replied: ‘feeding the people and saying Salam to those whom you know and those whom you do not know.’ (Sahih Bukhari)

Hazrat Moulana Haroon Abasoomar (rahimahullah) was extremely particular about the Salam. He would always be the first to greet one and all, whether the person was known to him or not.

If someone forgot to say the Salam, he would promptly remind him about it. He even would emphasise on the children to say the Salam properly.

Hazrat (rahimahullah) would constantly encourage the following:

 1️. Make the full Salam.

2️. Loud enough for others to hear and reply.

3️. Greet even those Muslims whom you do not know. We are all brothers.

Whilst in the Haramain or any large gathering he would love to spread the Salam saying: ‘We might not meet these people again in our life’.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ’anhu) had the habit of intentionally going into crowded shopping areas, with the only motive of spreading the Salam. (Muwatta Imam Malik)

Sadly today, the habit of saying Salam is diminishing rapidly.

In Islam we are taught that whenever two Muslims meet/cross paths they should exchange Salam.

One should never feel shy or proud to practice on the Sunnah.

May Allah Ta’ala grant us the ability to revive and hold onto this noble Sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu ’alayhi wasallam).

May Allah Ta’ala fill the grave of Hazrat Moulana (rahimahullah) with mercy and raise his ranks in Jannah. Ameen.
