Being mindful of ‘Asr Salah

Abul Malih said, “We were on an expedition with Buraydah [Al Aslami – radiyallahu ‘anhu] on a cloudy day when he said, ‘Perform the ‘Asr prayer well inside the time, for Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “If someone fails to pray ‘Asr, his actions will be nullified.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 553 and 594)

Since people are usually busy with trade and eager to round up their tasks at the time of ‘Asr, they become unmindful of ‘Asr Salah. This is one of the reasons Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) singled out ‘Asr Salah.

(Refer: Sahih Muslim with Al Minhaj, Hadith: 1416 and ‘Umdatul Qari)

Fulfilling the debt of a Muslim

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) related that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was asked:

“O Messenger of Allah, which of the people are most beloved to Allah, and which deeds are most beloved to Allah?”

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“The people most beloved to Allah are those who are most beneficial to the people; and the most beloved deed to Allah is to make a Muslim happy, or remove one of his troubles, or to fulfill his debt, or to satiate his hunger…”

(Qada-ul Hawaij, Hadith: 36)

Wealth and trade will become widespread

Sayyiduna ‘Amr ibn Taglib (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Among the signs of Qiyamah is that wealth will be widespread and in excess, trade will be widespread and knowledge will be [removed].”

Possessing wealth with Taqwa

Sayyiduna Yasar ibn ‘Abd (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said:

“There is no harm in possessing wealth for the one who fears [Allah Ta’ala], but good health for those who fear Allah is even better than wealth, and cheerfulness is a bounty.”

(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 2141)

Recitation for removal of poverty

Hafiz Abu Musa Al Madini (rahimahullah) has reported with his chain, on the authority of Sayyiduna Sahl ibn Sa’d (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) that a man once complained to Rasulullah (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) about his poverty. Nabi (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to him:
‘When you enter your home, if anyone is there or not, say salam, then send salutations upon me and recite ‘Qul Huwallahu Ahad’ (Surah Ikhlas) once’.

The narrator says that the man did this and soon Allah Ta’ala blessed him with abundant sustenance, so much so that he started assisting his neighbours and relatives.

(See Jalaul Afham pg. 222 and Ad Du’a of Shaykh ‘Abdullah Sirajud Din -rahimahullah- pg. 230)

Actions that attract Barakah in sustenance;

[1] Virtue of Surah Waqi’ah

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:
‘Surah Waqi’ah will become a protection from poverty for the one who recites it every night.’

The narrator says: ‘Sayyiduna Ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu’anhu) would teach this Surah to his daughters too.’
(Mukhtasar Ithafus sadatil Maharah, Hadith: 6556)

[2] Reciting Tasbih

Nabi Nuh (‘alayhis salam) advised his son to recite ‘subhanallahi wa bi hamdihi’ as this is the means through which the rest of the creation acquires their sustenance.
This is supported by the verse in the Quran: ‘Everything glorifies His praise (tasbih) but you do not perceive their tasbih.’ (Surah Isra, verse: 44)
(Kashful Astar, Hadith: 3069)

💡One should make a habit of reciting this tasbih at least a hundred times every morning.

Actions that attract Barakah in sustenance;

[3] Establishing Salah

Abu Khallad (rahimahullah) mentioned:
“When a nation is negligent towards Salah, and none prohibits them against this/cautions them except that the first punishment to afflict them will be a decrease of sustenance.”
(Fathul Bari of Hafiz Ibn Rajab, vol. 2 pg. 278)

The performance of Salah is closely linked to one’s sustenance. In Surah Taha, Allah Ta’ala mentions:
“Instruct your family to perform Salah and be steadfast in [performing] it. We do not ask you for provision. We provide for you.”
(Surah Taha, Verse: 132)

Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) states under the commentary of this Verse: “If you establish Salah, sustenance will come to you from avenues you did not anticipate.”
(Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah: Taha, Verse: 132)
