EARNING ONE’S RIZQ BY ONE’S OWN HANDS 👏🏽

Rasulullah ﷺ is reported to have said:
“No one has ever eaten any food which is better than that which he had earned through working with his hands. And verily Allah Ta’ala’s Nabi; Dawood (‘alayhissalam) used to eat of that which he earned with his hands.”
(Sahih Bukhari, 2072)

💎 Morals 💎
1⃣ This Hadith indicates that the best food to consume is that which is earned from the work of one’s own hands, eg. being involved in some profession or trade.
2⃣ We should not unnecessarily become a burden to others.
3⃣ Never should we consider it below our dignity to do any menial work for a living.
4⃣ Since the Ambiya (‘alayhimus salam) themselves would earn a living through hard work, there is none who can be equally honorable. It appears in the Hadith: “There is not a single Nabi who did not herd goats”.
5⃣ People should not shift their responsibilities and burdens onto others by begging, except in cases of dire necessity, which is considered a necessity in shari’ah.

May Allah ﷻ‎ grant everyone barakah in their earnings. Ameen.

The great reward for ‘ibadah during times of fitnah

Sayyiduna Ma’qil ibn Yasar (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said, “The reward of worship performed at the time of trials (fitnah) is like doing emigration (Hijrah) to me.”
(Sahih Muslim,2948)

Commentary
‘Allamah Nawawi (rahimahullah) explains that people generally become negligent at times of fitnah/trials. Therefore the reward is increased for those individuals who dedicate themselves to ‘ibadah in these times.
(Al Minhaj, Hadith: 7326)
The above is one of a few such Hadiths on this topic.
🕑 The times we live in are indeed trying, and filled with Fitnah.
Turning to Allah ﷻ‎ in such conditions is greatly rewarded.

🍇🍌 What to do when receiving the 1st Fruit of the Season 🍉🍒🍓

🎯Several Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum) have
reported that when the first fruit of the season used to be brought to Rasulullah ﷺ he would kiss it, touch it to his eyes & recite the following du’a [among others].
He ﷺ would then give that fruit to the smallest child that was in his presence:
اللهُمَّ كَمَا أَرَيْتَنا أَوَّلَه أَرِنا آخِرَه
Allahumma kama araytana awwalahu, arina akhirahu
Translation: O Allah! just as You have shown us the first of it, allow us to see the last of it.
(Abu Dawud in his Kitabul Maraseel, Ibnus Sunni & Tabarani)
‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narration of Tabarani as sahih (authentic).💯

Explanation
The reason for giving it to the child is
1⃣ Either because of the similarity between the two that both are new in the world or
2⃣ because of the extreme joy that a child experiences through this.🌟
🔎 The reason for Rasulullah ﷺ kissing the fruit and touching it to his eyes is because it has been newly created by Allah ﷻ‎. Just as he ﷺ would go out in the rain and open his chest [so the rain may touch him] & he would say: ‘Verily it [the raindrops] have only recently arrived from my Rabb !’
🌧☄💦
💡 Another Lesson
The above also teaches us that: the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum) would bring the first produce of their orchards to Rasulullah ﷺ to acquire Barakah
✅ Nowadays some people do -admirably-emulate this in a way, by presenting their first produce to their teachers, seniors, elders of the family etc for Barakah.

An amazing incident on keeping up old ties. 🏘

✅ Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) was once on his way to Makkah for ‘Umrah. On the way, he met a shabbily dressed Bedouin who was on foot. Upon seeing him, the noble Companion of Rasulullah ﷺ alighted his conveyance, went up to the Bedouin and inquired, ‘Are you the son of so and so?’
‘Yes’ replied the Bedouin.
Hearing this, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar greeted him with full zeal, he also removed his turban and gave it to the delighted Bedouin. After doing so, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah then offered him the comfortable conveyance that he had chosen for his journey. The Bedouin delightfully accepted it and continued on his way.
At this the colleagues of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) expressed their amazement by saying: ‘This person is a Bedouin, who would have been pleased even if you offered him a simple gift.’
To this he replied:
Indeed his father was a friend of my father and I have certainly heard our Beloved ﷺ  say:
Verily from the greatest forms of loyalty to ones parents after their demise, is for one to keep up ties with their friends.’ 👌🏽
(Sahih Muslim,6460)

💎In this incident, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) had actually extended his kindness to the son of his father’s friend and not just the friend himself.
🤲🏼 May Allah ﷻ‎ bless us with tawfiq to do the same.
Amin.

How to serve one’s parents even after their demise 🕌

🔎A man once enquired from Rasulullah ﷺ as to what rights do his parents have on him after their demise. Rasulullah ﷺ replied:
1⃣ To make du’a for them.
2⃣ To seek forgiveness on their behalf.
3⃣ To execute their orders and bequests.
4⃣ To maintain ties with those relatives of yours who are linked to you via them.
5⃣ To pay respect to their surviving friends.
📚 (Sunan Abi Dawud, 5099 & Sahih Ibn Hibban,498)
👌🏽According to one narration, Rasulullah ﷺ then said, ‘They (the parents) will be made aware of whatever he (the child) does on their behalf’. (Sunanul Kubra, vol.4 pg.28)

🤲🏼 May Allah ﷻ‎ make us from those who are/were obedient to their parents while they are/were alive, and after their demise too. Amin.

Don’t feed our children Haram

Sayyiduna Ka’b ibn ‘Ujrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reported that Nabi ﷺ said:
‘The fire of jahannam is most befitting for the flesh that is nourished by haram.’
(Sunan Tirmidhi, 614)

A lesson from the women of History 👌🏽
Imam Ghazali (rahimahullah) has stated that the wives of our predecessors (salaf) would tell their husbands in the mornings:
‘Fear Allah for our sake and do not feed us anything but pure halal. We can bare the pangs of hunger, but not the heat of the fire of Jahannam.’ 💎

‘Allamah Zabidi (rahimahullah) comments that this shows the high level of piety of the women of the past.
(See Sharhul Ihya,5/404 & Risalatul Mustarshidin, pg.216)

May Allah ﷻ‎ bless us all with the same level of taqwa. 🤲🏼

💎 The immense reward for sponsoring a student of Deen 📚

There was a person studying by the Famous, Maliki Scholar (who was the son of another great Maliki Scholar); Imam Muhammad ibn Sahnun (rahimahumallah). This student’s father came to the teacher (and what an excellent father he was). He said to the Teacher: I will take care of my son’s expenses by working myself, so I do not distract him from him studies.
Imam Ibn Sahnun (rahimahullah) replied:
‘Do you realise that your reward for this is greater than [nafl] Haj [or ‘Umrah] and guarding the Islamic borders or even [voluntary] active jihad?’

Inspiration 👌🏽
My esteemed Teacher; Al-Muhaddith Shaykh Muhmmad ‘Awwamah (hafizahullah) comments after quoting this:
‘This incident should serve as an inspiration to every such father whose son (by the blessings of Allah) has dedicated himself to Islamic knowledge; that he should try –according to his ability- to support him in his livelihood and related expenses, thereby freeing him from the responsibility of earning and its related affairs. This will allow him to be totally dedicated to his studies.’

Prophetic Guidance
Shaykh ‘Awwamah (hafizahullah) writes further:
‘This has reminded me of the Hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (radiyallahu’anhu) in which mentions that there were two brothers in the era of Rasulullah ﷺ ; one of them would [frequently] attend the lessons/gatherings of Rasulullah ﷺ while the other was the ‘earner’ [who supported the former].
One day, the brother who was earning [and supporting the other brother] came to complain to Rasulullah ﷺ about their situation.
Rasulullah ﷺ said: ‘Perhaps you are being fed [by Allah] because of him.’
(Ma’alim Irshadiyyah, pgs.35-36)
💡 Therefore, when Allah Ta’ala accepts us for a noble gesture like the one’s cited above, one should consider it a blessing from Allah Ta’ala, rather than a burden…

Laylatul Qadr reward every night! 💫💐

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar -among other Sahabah- (radiyallahu ‘anhum) reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
‘Whoever offers four rak’ahs after ‘Isha before leaving the Masjid, will receive the reward of [these rak’ahs being offered] on Laylatul Qadr.’
(Musnad Imam Abu Hanifah,178-179, & other sources. Also see Targhib,1/401)

🌷In addition to this, several Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum) have also said the same:
’Whoever offers four rak’ahs (nafl) after ‘Isha, will get the reward of offering these rak’ahs on Laylatul Qadr.’
(Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah,7351-7357 & As-Sunanul Kubra of Bayhaqi,2/477)

Fortunate are those who can secure such a privilege every night!
👌🏼Shaykhul Hadith, Moulana Fadlur Rahman ‘Azami (hafizahullah) would mention the following Urdu poem in his Hadith lesson:
قدر دانوں کیلئے ہر رات شب قدر ہے
For those who have real value, every night can be Laylatul Qadr!

💡 Note: One may merely add two rak’ahs to the usual two sunnah muakkadah after ‘Isha, and make the intention of practicing on this Hadith.

Making du’a for one’s parents after Salah 🤲🏼

Under the commentary of the Verse of Quran:
‘Give thanks to Me and to your parents’ [Surah Luqman, Verse: 14]
Many Senior, Reliable Mufassirun have quoted the following from Imam Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah (rahimahullah):

قال سفيان بن عيينة: من صلى الصلوات الخمس فقد شكر الله تعالى، ومن دعا لوالديه في أدبار الصلوات فقد شكرهما

Translation 📖

Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah (rahimahullah) said: “Whoever offers the five daily Salah, has shown gratitude to Allah Ta’ala and whoever supplicates for his parents after Salah, has shown gratitude to them.”

📚 (Tafsir Baghawi, Al Muharrarul Wajiz, Tafsir Qurtubi, Tafsir Nasafi & Ruhul Ma’ani, Surah Luqman, Verse: 14)

💡 Every child should consider it his bounden duty to practice the above daily.

👌🏽It was the habit of our pious predecessors to make du’a for their parents as well as their teachers after every Salah.

‘You get what you Deserve’

We often hear the saying cited in the title above. Some people word it as:
What goes around, comes around.

The following is an eye opener on this topic.

Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (radiyallahu’anhuma) reports that Nabi ﷺ said:
‘Be kind to your parents, your children will be kind to you. Remain chaste and your wives will be the same.’
(Al-Mu’jamul Awsat,1002. Also see Targhib,3/318/493 & Majma’uz Zawaid,8/138-139,)

💎 Morals 💎
👌🏽 People generally need the care of someone in old age. It’s the system of life; we serve our elders, and when we need care in old age, Allah Ta’ala inspires the young to oblige.
The sad reality of the current ongoing neglect towards this injunction only paints a bleaker picture of our own future…

🖐🏽 The increase of vice and it’s related wrongs in married adults, is alarming, as well as sad. This Hadith points us to one cause for this, which should be noted diligently…

Make that change 👌🏽
💡 Let’s be chaste, and our spouses will do the same, let’s treat others well, & we will be treated well too.

Let’s pass on good and thereby get what we deserve; more good.

Treasured Steps 👣

There are many rewarding deeds whose merits are multiplied based on the occasion in which they are carried out.
One such deed is:
Walking for the salah of Jumu’ah. 🕌
Sayyiduna Aws Ibn Aws (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah ﷺ said:
Whoever (does the following on a Friday):
1⃣ Takes a thorough bath,
2⃣ Goes very early to the Masjid,
3⃣ Goes walking, not riding,
4⃣ Sits close to the imam (not against the back wall)
5⃣ Listens attentively to the khutbah (sermon)
6⃣ Does not engage in futile activity (like, talking to someone or fidgeting with his hair, clothes or cellphone etc)

‘Will receive for every step:
The reward for one year’s fast and one year’s Tahajjud Salah!’
📚 (Sunan Abi Dawud & Tirmidhi, classified as Sahih by Imams: Ibn Khuzaimah, Ibn Hibban and Hakim)

There’s Nothing Better💎
One cannot imagine the amount of reward achievable for this weekly deed. 👌🏼
No wonder according to some Hadith experts, there is no other Sahih (authentic) Hadith with greater virtue than this one!
May Allah Ta’ala grant us all the ability to take advantage of this opportunity. Amin.

At the approach of Rajab

With the sighting of the crescent of Rajab, Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would anticipate and begin preparations for the month of Ramadan. This is two months in advance! People “live to see” various accomplishments in their lives, but a Believer “lives for” and yearns to witness sacred days like these.

Rajab Du’a
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite the following supplication when the Month of Rajab would commence:
اَللّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَناَ فِيْ رَجَبَ وَشَعْبانَ وَبَلّغْنَا رَمَضَانْ

Allahumma barik lana fi Rajaba wa Sha’bana wa balligh na Ramadan

Translation: O Allah! Grant us Barakah (Blessing) during (the months of) Rajab and Sha’ban, and allow us to reach Ramadan.
📚 (Shu’abul-Iman,3534, Ibnu Sunni,660, Mukhtasar Zawaid Bazzar,662, also see Al-Adhkar,549)

Hafiz Ibn Rajab rahimahullah says this narration is suitable to prove the merit of reciting this du’a -“istihbab.
( Lataif, pg.172.)

Sacred Months
Rajab is the second of the “four sacred months” in the Islamic Calendar which are referred to as: “Al-Ash-hurul hurum“ (Surah Tawbah, verse: 36)
The others are: Zhul Qa’dah, Zhul Hijjah and Muharram.

💡Explaining their significance the ‘Ulama mention that during these months, good deeds are more virtuous and evil deeds are more detestable to Almighty Allah. (Lataiful-Ma’arif, pg.163)

An interesting incident
A pious person once fell ill before Rajab. He made du’a to Allah that He allow him to live till Rajab (at least) because he had heard that Allah frees people from punishment in Rajab. Allah Ta’ala had accepted his du’a. (Latiful Ma’arif, pg.173)

Du’as are accepted 🤲🏼
Imam Shafi’i (rahimahullah) has stated: “I have heard that du’as are accepted by Almighty Allah on five nights:
1) The night of Jumu’ah,
2 and 3) The nights of the two ‘Eids,
4) The first night of Rajab,
5) The middle (15th) night of Sha’ban,
(Lataiful Ma’arif, pg. 196)
✏In fact, the experience of people prior to Islam even, shows that Allah Ta’ala would accept their du’as during the month of Rajab. Imam Ibn Abi Dunya (rahimahullah) has cited several examples of this in his book: “Mujabu Da’wah”. (ibid)

No Specific forms of worship
There are no specific types of Salah etc. that are prescribed for the Month of Rajab. One may engage in whatever form of ‘ibadah one is comfortable with. (Lataiful Ma’arif, pg.168, Islamic Months by Mufti Taqi Uthmani, pgs. 63 and 79)

The beginning of a new season 🗝
The crescent of Rajab actually signals the start of a “New Season”. One of more hope, special mercy and forgiveness for a believer. This “season” only finishes three months later; on the day of Eid!

👌🏽Shaykh Abu Bakr Balkhy (rahimahullah) says:
“Rajab is a month in which we plant the seeds of good. i.e, by increasing our ‘ibadah. In Sha’ban we water them, to cultivate (and reap the rewards) in Ramadan”
(Lataif, pg. 173)

💎 Opportunities like these only come once a year. Fortunate are those who maximise their benefit there from.
